St. Xavier’s School, Rutungia was established on 16 acres of land donated by the local people of Kunamaha Village to the then parish priest of Balliguda Fr Mathew Pudiyadam. Afterwards Archbishop Raphael Cheenath SVD of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Archdiocese requested the then Jesuit provincial of Jamshedpur Jesuit Province, Fr Joseph Kalathil SJ to open a school in the area, as it was the demand by the local people.
